Honda announced a 2010 massive recall Friday for the Honda Fit (also known as Jazz in some countries). 646,000 vehicles have been affected worldwide and the recall is due to a window overheating issue. 140,000 vehicles in the US will be recalled. Honda has not made an official statement about what model year of the Fit has been recalled.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the window switches in the Honda Fit and Jazz models may overheat if exposed to liquid, and they may smoke, melt or start a fire.
More information will follow when Honda has a plan of how to fix the problem, and Honda Fit owners will receive instructions in the mail. Honda announced the recall so that owners are aware of the problem.
The news comes just days after Toyota announced a massive recall which affects sales and production of eight vehicles. According to a CNN report released Friday, Toyota announced that they believe they have found a way to fix the gas pedal problem, but that the government needs to approve the method first and that process may take up to two weeks. Once it is approved, owners will be given instructions about how to have the gas pedal repaired.
Car recalls create an opportunity for other car dealerships.
"Every dog has its day," said Jerry Seiner, who owns several General Motors dealerships in Salt Lake City. "Maybe they'll take a second look at us instead of Toyota…when Toyota stumbles, it's our opportunity."
