Colbie Caillat, Roberta Flack, LMFAO, Mick Fleetwood, Tonex, Jimmy Jam and Sheila E. will appear on the 2010 Grammy Awards pre-show, the Grammys announced last night. The pre-show is the non-televised ceremony in the afternoon where the majority of Grammy Awards are handed out a few hours prior to the big televised event.

That group of artists will appear as award presenters during the ceremony. The pre-telecast will be hosted by jazz vocalist Kurt Elling and Tia Carrere, a nominee for Best Hawaiian Album.

The pre-show will also feature live performances, though few of the performers are recognizable names. They include R&B vocalists Lalah Hathaway and Charlie Wilson, classical guitarist Sharon Isbin, and a bluegrass collaboration led by Ray Benson.

The most exciting name on the pre-show performers list is indie rock band Beast. The Montreal trip-rock duo, perhaps the least-known act ever to earn a Grammy nomination in a major category, managed to score a nod for Best Music Video for "Mr. Hurricane."

The expanded pre-telecast will stream live for three hours on www.grammy.com starting at 4 pm EST/1 pm PST on January 31.

The pre-show can be tedious affair, as viewers have to sit through awards from all fields, ranging from classical to reggae, but the pace of the show is fairly quick. Most artists choose not to attend the ceremony because they're still on the red carpet, meaning that few winners actually show up to accept their awards, and those who do are limited to 30-second acceptance speeches.

The pre-telecast will feature the presentation of 99 of the 109 Grammy Awards, leaving only ten for the main show. It's where Beyonce, Taylor Swift, and the other big nominees are likely to earn the majority of their awards. And occasionally, big names do make an appearance - last year Carrie Underwood, Weezer, and Metallica were some of the acts who showed up to make an acceptance speech on the pre-show.

The 2010 Grammy Awards air on CBS on January 31.
