2010 Census forms arrive in Utah, the form take 10 minutes to complete

The 2010 Census forms arrived in mailboxes around Utah Monday and Tuesday. The US Census is only taken every ten years. It is a short form that takes less than ten minutes to fill out, and everyone in the US is asked to be a part of the 2010 Census.

The Census records and tracks how many people live in the US and where. The government said that sending back the form by mail will save money.

The 2010 Census forms requests the following information: number of people living in the residence, additional people who may be there on April 1, whether you own or rent the residence, a telephone number, and name, sex and date of birth of residents, race, if residents sometimes live anywhere else.

"It costs the government just 42 cents for a postage-paid envelope when a household mails back the form. It costs $57 to send a census taker door-to-door to follow up with each household that fails to respond," said Todd Hansen the Salt Lake City Census Office Manager.

Hansen said that Utah has approximately 1 million homes, and almost all of them will receive the census form in the mail this week. The 2010 Census forms may have to be hand delivered to those in rural areas.
