OK, so a hat trick is a hockey feat, not a Breeders’ Cup challenge. Perhaps that’s because it’s never been done before.
Till now. Two fabulous females stand ready to make Breeders’ Cup history.
The first weekend of November, Thoroughbred horse racing fans may hold their collective breaths for two top races at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. Two marvelous mares may win Breeders’ Cup World Championship races for the third time in a row.
Goldikova aims for third Breeders’ Cup Mile win.
The French racehorse Goldikova (Anabaa x Born Gold by Blushing Groom), who won the Breeders’ Cup Mile in 2009 and 2008, is expected may return to defend her title in 2010.
The five-year-old Irish-bred Thoroughbred, owned by Wertheimer and Frere and trained by former jockey Freddie Head, is scheduled to race under jockey Olivier Peslier. The $2 million race will run on the turf track at Louisville’s Churchill Downs on November 6th.
Zenyatta points at Breeders’ Cup World Championships threepeat.
West Coast supermare Zenyatta (Street Cry x Vertigineux by Kris S.), the undefeated darling of the American horse racing world, may prance to her third Breeders’ Cup World Championships win in 2010.
Owned by Jerry and Ann Moss and trained by John Shirreffs, Zenyatta won the 2009 Breeders' Cup Classic victory, racing against a full field of male contenders. Zenyatta won the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic in 2008. This year, Zenyatta is pointed for the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic, under jockey Mike Smith, to defend her title and pick up her third Breeders’ Cup title. The $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic will take place on November 6th at Churchill Downs.
The 2010 Breeders’ Cup, the 27th running of the prestigious two-day championship series, will be held the weekend of November 5th and 6th at Churchill Downs Race Track in Louisville, Kentucky. Purses for the two-day horse racing event total $26 million.
