Local music came alive last Sunday as artists and listeners went to the Cornerstone Restaurant and Bar in Hillsdale, NJ to participate in a newly sponsored bi-weekly open mic night by (201) Entertainment, an artist management and music promotion company based out of Bergen County.
The venue's welcoming atmosphere provided audiences with many hours of enjoyment, along with the food selection and performances as well. As crowds gathered through the door, they were greeted and captivated by local artists Spinn, Steve Desteno and Dominick Velardo as well as their beautiful blend of acoustic overlaid music, lyrics and harmonies. And while everyone enjoyed the many performances throughout the evening, the staff, service and extensive drink menu of the Cornerstone only added to make the event nothing short of a memorable social experience.
The musicians that came out to perform provided an assortment of the different genres and talents of the area. The folksy sing-a-alongs by local artist Andrew Nieporent brought a positive energy to the crowd, while Darrin Bradbury from the band Big Wilson River showcased impressive songwriting skills that left listeners with smiles on their faces. The comedic styling and music of Dan Hayden aka "The Duke of Stash" also added to the fun and camaraderie that was shared as he engaged the audience with his rap-infused lyrics. Later, friends and fans of singer-songwriter Mike Slammer gathered around to hear his guitar driven songs and ballads; an honest performance that highlighted itself as one of the best of the evening. Artists and listeners seemingly enjoyed the evening festivities with a sense of ease. Those unfamiliar with the area left the open mic having newly met acquaintances, while casual small talk between strangers quickly turned into conversations amongst friends.
Overall, the open mic was regarded as a huge success for the audiences, artists and local music scene alike. Both the staff of the Cornerstone and (201) Entertainment were extremely happy with the large turnout and social atmosphere that was shared that night, and are very excited to see future bi-weekly performances. (201) Entertainment’s open mic is as a must see for anyone interested in either performing or hearing live music and poetry in a casual, receptive environment!
