MTV has confirmed that Janet Jackson will indeed perform a tribute to Michael Jackson at the 2009 VMAs. The "special appearance" will "help open the show". Furthermore, it has been also confirmed that choreographer Frank Gaston is not involved in the event. (End of update.)
Janet Jackson is reportedly hard at work, rehearsing for a tribute to her brother Michael Jackson that would be performed at the upcoming 2009 Video Music Awards.
Although the official MTV site for the 2009 VMAs has not reported on it yet, according to TMZ Janet Jackson is working on a performance that will honor Michael Jackson with 20 backup dancers. One of them, Kryiss Grant, also an usher at the artist's burial, has said that some rehearsals have gone for as long as fifteen hours a day, and that "there won't be a dry eye in the house" after the show is over.
Janet Jackson's performance is reportedly being orchestrated by artists considered to be "the best choreographers in the world", like Frank Gatson and Travis Payne.
Having recently buried her brother, the tribute might be the best way for Janet Jackson to say goodbye to Michael, doing what both of them loved to do: perform and inspire.
The 2009 Video Music Awards, hosted by Russell Brand, air on September 13th at 9pm EST on MTV.
