2009 Primetime Emmy winners and complete re-cap!

Looking debonaire in a white jacket, black pants actor Neil Patrick Harris crooned a clever song and dance to “Put down the remote” in tribute to Television written by Mark Shamon and Scott Whitmen. Host Harris’s monologue included rants about the lack of substance in TV theme songs and the ever so timely and gratuitous Kanye West joke.

Harris’s co-host Cat Deeley of “So you think can dance” was on had to bring out presenters as well. The Emmy for outstanding writing for a Comedy series was presented to Matt Hubbard for “30 Rock reunion” by Harris’s “How I met your mother” cast including actress Alyson Hannigan ,Josh Radnor, Jason Sigel and Cobie Smulders

Julia Louis Dreyfess and Amy Poehler looked stunning as they presented best supporting actor in a comedy series to John Cryer of “Two and a half men” who joked that now that he had won an award he realized they are the “true measure of a persons real worth as a human being”.

Harris joked about his loss’s so far and introduced singer performer Justin Timberlake who gave tribute to legendary funny ladies like Lucille Ball, Bea Arthur and Betty White. He could hardly contained himself where comedianne Sarah Silverman sported a fake mustache while seated in the audience.

The award for lead actress in a comedy series went to first time Emmy winner Australian actress Tony Colette for her role in “United states of Tara”. Colettte stunning in bright orange ball gown thanked everyone in her life from Steven Speilberg to her children.

Gossip Girls stars Blake Lively and Leighton Meester awarded the Emmy’s for guest actress and actor Tina Fey and Justin Timberlake. They also presented best director in a comedy series to “The Offices’ Jeffrey Blitz .

Former Teen heart throb turned serious actor, Rob Lowe (Brothers and Sisters )was there to present the Emmy for outstanding actor in comedy series. The Emmy went to Alec Baldwin star of NBC’s hit comedy “30 rock”. Baldwin thanked Tina Fey, and the whole cast and crew. He said he wanted to thank someone “who thinks of you in good weather, and bad weather” and especially dedicate his award to producer Lorne Michaels as the “greatest best boss you could ever have”.

 The next category was Reality series and featured the highly anticipated performance of “Dancing with the stars” former super couple Krina Smniroff and Maksim Chemerkovskiy. The two recently broke of their highly publicized engagement. Emmy winner John Cryer and Heros star, and animal activist Hayden Panettiere in stunning red Jay Mandell gown presented best “Reality Host” to Survivor host Jeff Probst. Comic Tracey Morgan of “30 Rock” presented the award for Reality “Competition show” to “The Amazing Race”.

Mini series or movie nominees included some stiff competition with Grey Gardens, Coco Chanel, among the nominees. Actor Kevin Bacon and his wife actress Kyra Sedgewick, presented supporting actress for best supporting Actress to Israeli actress Shoreeh Aghdashlo for her role in “House of Saddam”.

The award for best supporting actor in a mini series went to actor Ken Howard for his role in the HBO movie “Grey Gardens”. He thanked his Grey Gardens co-stars as “two great leading ladies Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lang”. He said he would speed it up as to not be" interrupted by a congressmen or a rapper" .Then he gave some unusual thanks to “stunt woman” Jeannie Epper who gave him a kidney 9 years ago and his wife of 18 years, Linda, and said “happy birthday sunshine, this ones for you!"

Kate Walsh and Chandra Wilson’s height difference could have given them a classic Laurel and Hardy comedy dynamic. Award for Brendan Gleason for lead actor in a miniseries or movie “ Into the storm”. He thanked the director for allowing his late parents a chance to se the first cut before they passed away.

Ghost Whisperer’s” Jennifer Love Hewitt and "Medium’s" Patricia Arquette presented the Emmy award for Outstanding writing for a mini series or movie Andrew Davies for “Little Doritt’ . Dearbhla Walsh was awarded an Emmy for directing for mini series or movie for the PBS series “Little Doritt”.
 

Harris appeared in a spoof as" Doctor Horrible" to tell viewers that the era of broadcast television is over, and that the internet was taking over. The skit shoed in a humurous way how the internet freezes and pixlelates versus broadcast TV.

Alec Baldwin awarded the Emmy to actress Jessica Lange for her role opposite Drew Barrymore in the HBO movie Grey Gardens”. Lang choked back tears as she thanked “above all... the other half Drew Barrymore, for her "extraordinary talent, for her brilliance, for her determination, and most of all for her great, great heart, who made it all possible". "And to the Beale’s ..big and little Edie , It was such a joy to step into their shoes.”

24 star Kiefer Sutherland gave the Emmy for made for Television movie to Grey Gardens . Michael Sucsi  read from little Edie Beale’s journal “To love is to nourish with hope, we live for another who is living for us and each must breath hope into another.”

The Emmy award for best miniseries went to the PBS series “Little Doritt”.The next category up was the Variety show which also includes talkshows , comedies like SNL, and award shows like the Oscars, VMA’s and more. “Big bang Theory’s” cast was on hand to give out the award for Outstanding directing. The award went to Bruce Gowers of American Idol. NBC news anchorman Brian Williams read nominees for best variety writing and the award went to “The Daily show”.

Jimmy Fallon came out singing like a crowd motivator with a voice effect on his mic and faked a fall on stage as he introduced nominations for Best original music and lyrics.

The award was presented for the routine performed by Hugh Jackman at the 2009 Oscars. Presenter Ricky Gervais said he created “The Office” so he “sits home and waits for the checks to come in” He presented Jon Stewarts “The daily show” with the Emmy for Best Comedy Series.

Harris introduced the next, and last category of the evening “Drama”. Rapper LL Cool J and actor Chris O’Donnel read the nominess for lead actor in a Drama to “Lost” villain and 2 time Emmy winner Michael Emerson. Who was grateful that his “flight to Hawaii for a guest spot, and 4 years later it’s the role of my lifetime”. The Emmy for Lead Actress went to Cherry Jones for he rrole  President of the United States on the FOX hit show 24. Jones said her award would “be on the craft services table tomorrow”.

A very touching moment of the nights event was when Canadian singer Sarah McLachlan sang “I will remember you”, while a montage of all the stars who have died flashed across the screen.
 

Bones star David Boreanaz , and "True Blood's" Stephen Moyer gave the awards for Guest actress, and actor in a Drama which went to Ellen Burstyne and Michael J Fox . The two winners then came up and presented the award for outstanding directing for a drama series to Rod Holcomb of ER.

Next the  Emmy for Best writing for a drama series went to the writing team of “Madmen”. Australian actor Simon Baker and star of CBS hit drama “The mentalist” presented the Emmy award for Lead Actress in a Drama series to Glenn Close for her role on “Damages”.

Desperate Housewives star Dana Delany presented Leading Actor in a dramatic series. The award went to two time winner Bryan Cranston for his role on “Breaking Bad”, who said “I feel like Cinder-fella”.
 

Harris said they were saving the best for last with only two more awards to go “The best Comedy” and “Best Drama”. Legendary comic Bob Newhart came out to present the award for Best Comedy series. As anticipated the award went to the NBC hit show with 22 Emmy nominations, “30 Rock”. Actress /Comedian Tina Fey accepted as the shows spokeswoman and said "Robert Carlock is the engine that keeps the show going ...I want to work with you everyday, until I put you in the ground."

Aliens star Sigorney Weaver presented the award nominees for Best Dramatic series. AMC’s series “Mad men” which has received 16 Emmy nominations, was awarded the 2009 Emmy for best Drama series.
