Corvettes took over the GM Assembly Plant Parking Lot as Enthusiasts toured the massive building
Inside the GM Bowling Green Assembly Plant was the place to be Friday.
While others were touring, from Nashville's General Jackson to tasting bourbon on the Bourbon Trail, the true believers were inside the plant where Corvettes are born.
All day long a steady stream of Corvette lovers took the self guided tour of the plant - a first for many. Normally the plant offers only escorted guided tours, which while very worthwhile, don't offer the chance to linger to see exactly it all comes together.
Eliminating the guided tour meant when the line stopped, due to a break down or break time, the tour continued. Nothing is more disheartening than being ready to see the marriage of the engine and drive train to the body and have the line stop, but the tour guide insist the group move along. Today, that point in the tour was always jammed.
Cameras are not allowed inside the plant for safety reasons.
Corvette drivers from Mexico City and Canada, and all fifty states were represented on the plant floor. Even Australia was represented, but they had to rent a Mazda!
While Corvette Caravaners were playing tourists in southern/western Kentucky, the tourists inside the assembly plant were having the most fun.
