A young man is listed in critical condition after what police are describing as a brutal beating that took place at the KRT Transit Mall on Laidley Street in downtown Charleston.
A surveillance video captured two or three people beating 20-year old Brandon Coltey using bricks and stomping him repeatedly. Surveillance also captured a large group of people who stood by just watching. The incident occurred about 8 p.m. Monday evening and anyone with information is asked to call the Police.
The Transit Mall has been known to be a crime haven in the city; within the last year two men were stabbed during two separate altercations. In September the City of Charleston assigned full-time police patrols to the Transit Mall in an effort to keep criminal activity down in an area. But surveillance showed no officers at the scene during the time the incident took place.
No arrests have been made thus far, but law enforcement hopes the video will help them solve the crime.
