20 Questions for a Cornhole Pro - Jack Stagge

Jack Stagge, ranked 3rd in the World (2009) was kind enough to participate in the “20 Questions” essay. Jack also gave a personal bio about himself and his love for the sport of Cornhole.

“My cornhole life started 3 years ago. I was working around 65 hours a week. I came home one Saturday afternoon and my next door neighbor was throwing bags on a cornhole board. He said get a shower and get over here you are going to love this game. John's wife was working the grill and his cooler was full of beer, it doesn’t get any better than that. I soon realized to be good you have to spin the bags. I have played a lot of sports but never anything like this. I couldn't get enough, I was totally consumed. How could this awesome game elude me? Where have I been and what was I doing not to have known about this game? Finally reality kicked in and said,”Get a beer” and get back to throwing. The more I shot the better I seemed to get. I just couldn't get enough! I was so fired up it was unbelievable. The next thing I knew my wife Trish came over and said,”Jack, it's 5:00 am Monday morning; you need to come home and get a shower.” I went to work and all I could think about was cornhole. After work I went to Lowe’s and bought the material to build my very own set. My new set was built in an hour and I was off and running again. I had to see how good I was so I entered my first tournament. I came in 10th place out of 20 teams. That drove me to be better some how some way. I began to practice hard to the point that the whole front yard was nothing but a giant bar spot. The neighbors thought I had gone off the deep end. How could one man get this much entertainment out of throwing cornhole bags every night until dark? I went to other tournaments always coming in 4th place, one place out of the money. My daughter said, "Dad you suck." That fired me up because family doesn’t lie and she was right. I began to focus like never before, my daughter's honesty was what I had to here. Everybody knows the rest of the story. Will this ever happen again, only God knows, but it did happen once. "You gotta dream you gotta live it" JACK STAGGE
