Lolo Jones was born on August 5, 1982, in Des Moines, Iowa. Lolo had a tough childhood, as one of five children being raised by a single mom. Her family was forced to move often, and they even lived in a church basement for a time.
Lolo Jones went to Theodore Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, and she had to leave her family and live with different families in order to stay at Theodore Roosevelt. After excelling at track in high school, especially the hurdles, Lolo Jones continued her track career in college at LSU.
After graduating from LSU in 2005, Lolo Jones competed at both the 2008 (Beijing) and 2012 (London) Summer Olympics in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing fourth in 2012. Lolo missed winning the gold medal in 2008, when she clipped the second to last hurdle while clearly leading the race.
After the 2012 Summer Olympics, Lolo Jones started training for the 2014 Winter Olympics in the bobsled competition. Lolo made it onto the USA women's bobsled team in October of 2013, and she should be competing for a medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics at Sochi, Russia.
While she has yet to win a medal at the Olympics, Lolo Jones has become something of a celebrity in the United States. Lolo Jones is sponsored by Red Bull and Asics, and she appeared partially nude in ESPN's 2009 The Body Issue.
Lolo Jones has also appeared on the cover of Outside magazine, and she has been on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno". Some have criticized Lolo Jones because she has received a lot of media attention, but has never won an Olympic medal, calling her a media creation.
Such criticism ignores the facts that Lolo Jones holds the American indoor record in the 60 meter hurdles, and when she competes in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, she will be one of a select few to have competed in both the summer and winter Olympic games.
