A Dec. 12 coroner’s report confirmed that two-year-old Savannah Cross, who died one year ago as a result of being repeatedly beaten in a Phoenix, Ariz. daycare by one daycare owner while another allegedly watched and did nothing, died as a result of being murdered.
The report concluded that young Savannah, who was only weeks away from turning three this time last year, died from “multiple traumatic injuries, acute methamphetamine exposure and dehydration,” according to Arizona Republic.
Ryan Alan Reed, 27, and Allison Ann Clement, 28, the owners of the daycare and the two responsible for caring for Savannah, were arrested following the toddler’s death and charged with murder and child abuse, charges that were eventually dropped last Sept. due to lack of evidence because of legal deadlines and a delayed autopsy report.
During the investigation, Reed told police he abused 2-year-old Savannah Cross on numerous occasions by hitting, kicking and grabbing her roughly.
The night before Savannah died, Reed reportedly stomped on her while she was on the ground, “and she curled up and spent the rest of the night in that position.”
The next morning, Reed called 911 to report that the child was unresponsive. Savannah died that morning on her way to the hospital.
During Savannah’s initial hospital examination, it was noted she had bruises covering her entire body.
Reed was rearrested last month following forensic reports showing that he had molested Savannah.
According to those Nov. forensic reports, investigators were able to link Reed’s semen to Savannah Cross.
Further autopsy details outlined in the documents show injuries to the child’s genitalia, likely the result of trauma.
Currently, Allison Ann Clement is still free. Prosecutors are obviously reserving the right to refile charges against her, but aren’t commenting as to their plans.
In addition to being cared for by criminal daycare owners, Savannah’s mother didn’t help her child’s situation much. The mom, an exotic dancer, i.e. stripper, routinely left Savannah with the daycare owners for weeks and months at a time.
Ryan Alan Reed is scheduled to appear before a Maricopa Co, judge on Monday.
