According to The Huffington Post on Wednesday, a 2-year-old in China, is reported to have "given birth" to the undeveloped fetus of his twin.
Xiao Feng had to undergo an operation to ‘give birth’ to his own parasitic twin after doctors found that Feng was carrying an undeveloped fetus inside his stomach, and removed it through emergency surgery, according to Inquisitr's translation of newscast from a China Central Television, a state-run media outlet.
A film of the boy was uploaded by a Chinese media outlet and shows a scan of the boy's stomach, with the dead twin inside.
The unborn fetus measured 20 cm in width and had also formed a spine and limbs, as well as fingers and toes.Doctors say the fetus took up two thirds of Xiao’s stomach, resulting in breathing difficulties for the child.
Experts believe that the parasitic twin would have killed Xiao if it had been left untreated.
Identical twins are formed when an egg splits in half after fertilization, but conjoined twins are formed when it fails to fully separate. Conjoined twins can survive as ‘parasites’ but not when one is absorbed into the other twin.
Huffington Post cited that the same thing happened last year in Peru, when a three-year-old boy was found to be carrying his parasitic twin brother inside of him.
