A two-year-old is just taking his first steps, for the second time of his life. A heartening story comes out of Englewood, New Jersey, where a young boy’s determination and willpower is a lesson for all.
Kayden Elijah Kinckle had his right foot, and his left leg, amputated in January of this year. Now, fitted with prosthetics, he is learning to walk again. Video, as seen above, is going viral.
Reports Fox News: “Kayden Elijah Kinckle was born with omphalocele, a type of abdominal wall birth defect that sometimes makes organs stick out of the body. His mother, Nikki, said that doctors told her that he would never survive outside of the body, and they suggested that she terminate her pregnancy.”
Despite the odds, Kayden’s mom didn’t give up on him. Kayden’s umbilical cord was wrapped around his feet, causing abnormality in his growth. Nikki delivered him early, and while his spine and hips were normal, his limbs were underdeveloped. Although he is now a double-amputee, Kayden’s spirits are high, and his outlook is even higher.
Video shows Kayden, with the assistance of a tiny walker, exclaiming “I got it! I got it!” with his first steps.
A GoFundMe page, complete with many pics of Kayden and his smiles, has been set up, entitled Steppin’ Out on Faith. The family has raised over half of their stated goal of $50,000 needed to cover medical expenses, such as continued physical therapy visits, braces and prosthetics as well as existing medical bills. As of the writing of this article, close to $30,000 has been raised by nearly 800 donators.
The family has also created a Facebook page to honor their little hero. Kayden is quickly capturing our hearts on social media.
“We celebrate his life as well and every step he takes will be to glorify God. We want the whole world to know his testimony,” mom Nikki Kinckle said. “Thank you for all of your awesome responses, and my family is so happy that God used Kayden Elijah Knickle to encourage and inspire so many people.”
