Two people were shot during a shootout late Friday night at an apartment complex in northwest Atlanta.
Police said the shooting resulted from a fight between a woman’s brother and her boyfriend.
Shortly after 11 p.m., Atlanta police responded to a call regarding a person shot at 2591 Etheridge Drive, police spokeswoman, Officer Kim Jones said.
When officers arrived, they found two people wounded: Mr. Anthony Powers, 23, had gunshot wounds to the leg and arm and the suspect, Mr. Donald Laster, 29, was shot in the thigh and abdomen, Officer Jones said.
Both were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition, Officer Jones said.
Mr. Powers’ girlfriend, Ms. Tequila Copeland, 28, said she had gotten into an argument with Mr. Powers and called her brother Mr. Star Turner about the dispute.
Mr. Turner and Mr. Laster showed up at the apartment to confront Mr. Powers, Officer Jones said.
A fight broke out among Mr. Powers, Mr. Turner and Mr. Laster and ended in a shootout inside the apartment, Officer Jones said.
Mr. Turner left before officers arrived.
Investigators found 18 shell casings as well as one round, Officer Jones said. Both 9mm and 45 caliber weapons were found. Officers recovered 14 9mm casings outside the apartment in the parking lot, she said.
But none of the weapons were recovered.
Police charged Mr. Laster with simple battery because no witness said he was armed, Officer Jones said.
Police were still waiting to get a statement from Mr. Powers, who was under sedation at the hospital, she said.
