Travelers on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Western North Carolina will not be able to travel the entire route between Asheville and Cherokee due to off-season closures to allow crews to perform needed repair work on two tunnels.
The National Park Service said the closures will start Monday, February 20th and will last until April 15.
The section of the parkway between Milepost 393.8 to Milepost 405 is being closed for repairs to Ferrin Knob Tunnel No. 1. A section of the road between Milepost 443 and the end of the parkway at U.S. 441 in Cherokee will also close until April 15 for repairs on the Big Witch Tunnel.
In addition to the sections of road being closed, the park service says there will not be a signed detour, so drivers should plan ahead.
Large sections of the Parkway are closed as needed due to Winter storms so it is always smart to contact the Park before heading out.
