A large group of motorcyclists left Central Virginia this morning for Washington, D.C. The bikers are part of the 2 Million bikers rode into Washington DC this morning as part of an event to honor victims of the September 11 attacks.
“We’re riding in remembrance of the 9/11 catastrophe. We’re showing our support and patriotism by riding to D.C,” stated Central Virginia contingent organizer Steve Brantley “I’m very patriotic. I believe in America and this is the least I can do to show my support and remember those fallen heroes from 9/11.”
Brantley said riders from as far away as Georgia and South Carolina left along with the group from Central Virginia, adding that more bikers from California left last week to meet for the 12th anniversary of 9/11, despite the National Park Service and Metro Police’s refusal to issue a permit for the gathering..
Despite their disappointment , the bikers noted that it was “legal for motorcycles to drive through the capital, and participants cruised in this morning, vowing to obey all traffic laws so prevent any problems.
The ride was also meant as a response to the Million Muslim March, a movement organized by the American Muslim Political Action Committee in an effort to show Americans that Muslims denounce terrorism, also scheduled for today..
"On 9/11/01 our country was forever changed by the horrific events in New York. The entire country was victimized by the acts done on that day," AMPAC said in a statement. "Muslim and non-Muslim alike were traumatized but we as Muslims continue 12 years later to be victimized by being made the villains. To this day every media outlet and anti-Islamic organizations have committed slanderous and libel statements against us as Muslims and our religion of Islam."
