2 essential, universal apps for writers on the go

Most writers carry notebooks or have different ones stashed away in their car, bag or briefcase for those moments when an idea strikes. But, these days technology has made it much easier to capture those thoughts on the go. Here are two essential apps that every writer should have on their smart phone, tablet and computer.

Evernote
Evernote is a universal note keeping application in which users can create several different notebooks containing notes within each. Users can create simple text notes, add images, or use the “Web Clipper” feature to grab content snippets from websites. Evernote offers automatic and manual synchronization to keep all notes in sync between mobile devices, Windows, Mac, and the Web. Tagging and searching are also options in case users have many notebooks and notes. Registered users can share, print and even email their notes to others. Evernote offers free accounts which come with an email address for users to email notes, images and audio files directly to their account. Paid and gift accounts are also available with enhanced support features and large monthly upload capacities. Writers can jot down those great ideas while lounging at home and then add to them when another one strikes on a weekend getaway. Evernote is a handy way for writers on the go to keep their notes in sync for access between devices no matter where they may be.

Dropbox
Dropbox is a cross-platform storage application that makes uploading photos, videos and files a breeze. With free accounts offering 2 GB of storage and paid accounts offering up to 500 GB of storage, Dropbox is the perfect solution for writers capturing items in a hurry. Registered users can also obtain a link for sharing files and photos with others. The app is available on mobile devices, Windows, Mac, Linux, and the Web with automatic and manual synchronization capabilities. Dropbox also offers their users easy ways to get more storage space for free. Their “Invite your friends” feature provides referrers and referees each with 500 MB of storage and their “Camera Upload” feature provides 3 MB of storage for automatic camera uploads. What a terrific way to capture that perfect photo for a story, have it automatically uploaded and ready for editing on the home computer.

Both of these apps are available on Android mobile devices, the iPhone and iPad, Windows and Mac computers, and the Web. No writer should be without these convenient apps to stay in sync, capture that perfect moment or make sure never to lose an inspirational idea.
