At the corner of Mississippi and Pearl St.
The Pub on Pearl is more than just a bar. It is a great bar. It’s the kind of bar where you want to hang out even when the sun is up. It has a cool interior with a long wooden bar, live music nights, great outside patios in the front and back, pool tables, a dartboard, and food and drink specials every day of the week. This establishment is a great destination any time, but it is an especially nice place to pass a Sunday afternoon.
There is a fairly amazing amount of brunch specials in Denver, with nearly every pub, grill or restaurant offering some deal on French toast, mimosas, and other weekend favorites. Despite the array of options, I find myself spending many a Sunday at the Pub on Pearl for one simple reason: $2 breakfast burritos.
$2 breakfast burrito smothered in cheese and green chile.
No one would ever describe these burritos as being gourmet, or authentically Mexican. However, many people have described them as being, “awesome.” First of all, they are not whimpy little things that you have to eat five of to get full. Each burrito fills up a normal size plate, and most people only need to order one. Admittedly, being an unusually hungry person and a voracious lover of green chile, I typically spring for the four dollars and get two burritos.
The recipe is pretty simple. Start with a flour tortilla. Fill said tortilla with scrambled eggs, tater tots (way more delicious than it sounds), and your choice of bacon or sausage (or neither, for our vegetarian friends). Once filled up and wrapped, the burrito is then thoroughly smothered in shredded cheese and The Pub’s homemade green chile. It is one of life’s simple pleasures and a reason to return week after week. Best of all, they serve it all day, so even if you are busy, you can stop in anytime before 10 p.m. and a grab one for dinner.
Plenty of TVs for watching the game.
With the advent of football season, the burrito is even more appealing. Spend the day at The Pub watching the day’s games with a group of other fans on one of their many flat-screen TVs. There is one in every corner and another directly over the center of the bar. In addition to showing the Sunday games, they also show all other NFL games (Thursday and Monday Night Football) as well as most sporting events in general, all year round. For those thirsty fans out there (or just thirsty people) Sundays also come with $2 Bloody Marys (in a full pint glass) and the pubs full selection of regularly low-priced drinks. The normal price for a pint of great beer on tap (O’Dell’s 90 Shilling or New Belgium’s Fat Tire, for example) is just $3.50. That’s a happy hour price at most bars.
Head on down to the corner of Pearl and Mississippi where a breakfast burrito and a bloody mary will only cost you four dollars. Hang out with friends, watch some football, and have a great Sunday.
