1st 'Man of Steel' trailer will be attached to 'The Dark Knight Rises'

We have reached a point in entertainment journalism where movie trailers are almost as newsworthy as movies.  That being the case, your friendly neighborhood Fanboys Examiner is all but obligated to tell you that the first teaser trailer for "Man of Steel," director Zack Snyder's uber-budget Superman reboot, will hit theatres tagged to this summer's "The Dark Knight Rises."

Cosmic Book News cites a confidential source, said to be someone "working on" "Man of Steel," who claims to have seen a rough cut of the trailer, and has information that the teaser will be attached to prints of Christopher Nolan's third, and probably final, Batman movie.  In point of fact, there's little reason to disbelieve them.  Their source says the teaser is pretty basic and will show little in the way of CGI or special effects.  That's credible.  And attaching the teaser to "The Dark Knight Rises" makes plenty of sense.

Cosmic Book News also now maintains that descriptions of the trailer content that hit the web yesterday are false.

"Man of Steel" stars Henry Cavill as Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Michael Shannon as General Zod and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White.

That's probably as close as we're going to get to an onscreen team up of the two best-known DC superheroes.  Although Superman and Batman used to team up every month in World's Finest Comics, along with their appearances in The Justice League, all of the principals involved in the current Warner Bros. movie adaptations have lately stressed that these characters will continue to inhabit their own universes without crossing over.

"The Dark Knight Rises" hits theatres on July 20, 2012.  "Man of Steel" flies into multiplexes on June 14, 2013.
