Palmer Home for Children
Palmer Home for Children is a ministry to children in need; children who are growing up as social orphans without the nurture and support of a loving family; children who need a place to be and to become. Palmer Home for Children's mission is to reflect the hope and love of Christ by providing a stable, long-term Christ-centered home for children who lack an adequate family structure. To that end Palmer Home, as it has since 1895, remains committed to privately-funded, non-government child care which keeps siblings together, models Evangelical Christian values, mends emotional scars, restores self-esteem, and provides for each child the full opportunity to reach his or her God-given potential. The Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi
This foundation was born out of a cooperative project in 2000 to place an online computer in every DeSoto County public classroom. DeSoto became the first county in Mississippi to accomplish this goal as a pilot project for the state. Following this model,Mississippi became the first state in the nation with an online computer in every public school classroom. After this success, a local steering committee met for more than two years, and the Foundation was incorporated in January 2002 to serve eight counties: Coahoma, DeSoto,Marshall, Panola, Quitman,Tallahatchie, Tunica and Tate.
