The Papa John's Oktoberfest returns to Redstone Arsenal (Huntsville) for its 19th year on Thursday, September 11 through Sunday, September 14.

If you are looking for a top tier Oktoberfest experience in North Alabama, look no further than the 19th Annual Oktoberfest at Redstone Arsenal. There is no doubt that this event has a wealth of fun activities each and every year, but I am sure that my readers will be most interested to hear about this year's Craft Biergarten. Returning for its second year, the Craft Biergarten is back and better than ever thanks to event organizers partnering with Free the Hops to improve your overall experience. The benefits of this partnership can immediately be seen in the expanded array of craft beer options that will be available from the following breweries:

For the additional cost of entry into the Craft Biergarten, you get unlimited samples from the breweries listed above. If you happen to thoroughly enjoy a beer that you have sampled, another change to this year's event will allow you buy a full pour for an additional $10 or you can order a beer float for $11. This year's biggest improvement is that you will not be confined to the Biergarten area like last year. Upon entering the festival, you will receive a Craft Biergarten wristband that will give you the ability wander the festival as you please. This change allows you to experience all that Oktoberfest has to offer while still enjoying your favorite craft beers.

Entry into the Craft Biergarten is an additional $20 to the general admission charge (details below), and that gets you unlimited samples and a souvenir tasting glass. The Craft Biergarten hours are as follows: Thursday, September 11 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday, September 12 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, September 13 from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Sunday, September 14 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition to the Craft Biergarten, this Oktoberfest celebration boasts a plethora of family-friendly attractions. There will be free carnival rides, games and entertainment for folks of all ages. To make sure that you are all well fed during the event, the Papa John's Festhalle Tent will be serving up traditional German fare such as schnitzel, bratwursts, and German potato salad. If you happen to be worried about the Oktoberfest taking place over the weekend, you can rest assured that you will not have to miss any college or NFL football action. The WOW/hhgregg Sports Pavilion will be showing your favorite games on five big screen televisions and they will also have beer, liquor and wine available for purchase in that area.

This event is open to the public and general admission costs are as follows:

  • Thursday, September 11: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. - $12
  • Friday, September 12: 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. - $15
  • Saturday, September 13: 12 p.m. to 1 a.m. - $15
  • Sunday, September 14: 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. - $12

The cost of admission gets you entrance into the event, free parking, free entertainment and free carnival rides. As mentioned above, the Craft Biergarten costs an additional $20 per person and gets you unlimited samples and a souvenir tasting glass. Full pours of beer or other alcohol and food can be purchased throughout the event for an additional cost. To enter the festival, guests must enter through Gate 10/Patton Road during festival hours and have a valid driver's license.

This event has all of the bases covered, and all that is missing from the 19th Annual Oktoberfest is you, your friends and your family. You are not going to want to miss out on this wonderful event, so make sure to mark those calendars today. Prost!
