An exhibition of giant sculptures that not only feed the imagination of those who view them but also literally help feed the hungry. That is the premise of Canstruction, the wacky, wonderful and truly unique annual international charity competition conceived by the Society for Design Administration. Architects, engineers, contractors and the students they mentor, compete to design and build giant structures made entirely from full cans of food.
Whether you have family visiting for the long weekend or are looking for something to do, we strongly encourage you to stop by the World Financial Center! Words cannot express how amazing (and innovative) the designs are at theCanstruction event. A charity competition, the annual exhibition challenges 26 teams to build their best sculpture out of cans. On display until November 21st in the Winter Garden, Canstruction benefits City Harvest, a non-profit working to end hunger in communities throughout New York City. Every can used in the structures on display (along with your food contributions) will go to City Harvest in efforts to help aide their cause. Last year, the structures alone yielded over 68,000 pounds of food helping to feed close to 70,000 New Yorkers.
The 19th annual Canstruction is a must-attend event that not only challenges our concept of design, but also spreads an act of kindness to those in need. To learn more about Canstruction, visit them online at www.canstruction.org
