A Hendersonville, North Carolina man is being held on felony child abuse charges, Fox Carolina reported January 26.

Robert Jacob Patterson, 19, is being held at the Henderson County Detention Facility under $40,000 bond after being charged with felony child abuse after his arrest on Friday.

Henderson County deputies arrested Patterson after an investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit and the Department of Social Services found evidence showing his 3-month-old child was injured while Patterson babysat while the mother was at work.

Patterson, who lives at the home and was engaged to be married, was reported after a child specialist at Mission Hospital in Asheville told them the child had suffered injuries stemming from abuse. The baby is expected to recover from extensive bruising to the face and a fractured skull.

Patterson is set to go before the judge Monday morning.
