19 Santa Clarita churches make one million meals

Sunday, April 22, churches across the Santa Clarita Valley will team up to make one million meals. They come from multiple denominations, sizes, and worship styles.

Each church has committed to pack a portion of the meals which will be sent to Uganda and Sierra Leone. The meals contain lentils, spice, chicken and rice which fulfill the main dietary needs of those communities. One bag will feed four people.

Teams at the churches will gather around tables and work together to create the meals and pack them into boxes. Families will participate in every part of the experience from packing to decorating the boxes or writing letters for the people who receive the boxes.

Once created these meals will be loaded onto trucks from Children of the Nations an international aid organization. The goal for these churches: pack and prepare 500,000 meals.

In addition, the churches have been collecting canned food to donate to the two main local food pantries in Santa Clarita: Help the Children and Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry. On Sunday, they will sort and pack the food into boxes to ship to those two organizations. They plan on collecting 500,000 cans.
