Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar are celebrating their wedding anniversary, and Michelle is using the opportunity to share her honeymoon memories. Us Magazine reports on Monday that the “19 Kids & Counting” star is recalling some of the frugal drama during the honeymoon and how the couple handled it. Michelle and Jim Bob have been married for 30 years and will follow the same philosophy of not spending too much on their anniversary.
Michelle reveals that the couple selected state parks as their honeymoon destination to save money. However, the first cabin on their list was a disappointment, and they escaped to a local hotel. The dirty and outdated cabin did not ruin their honeymoon, and they moved on to the next cabin on their list. However, Jim Bob and Michelle started having serious car problems, so they felt it was safer to return home. Instead of enjoying the views at a state park, they spent their honeymoon renovating their house and looking at kitchen cabinets.
The couple plans to celebrate their anniversary with lunch and family time, but fans of the “19 Kids & Counting” show already know their frugal habits have stayed intact for the past 30 years. Their children have followed the example they set, and Jill’s recent wedding to Derick Dillard was also a simple event with a focus on family instead of drama. Michelle and Jim Bob do not have any regrets about the way they spent their honeymoon.
The Duggars have also shared details about their first home together as a couple, and Michelle admits it was a small house with only 900 square feet. In addition, they had to do many of the renovations on their own during the honeymoon but enjoyed the process. Michelle looks back fondly on these honeymoon memories despite the disappointing experience at a state park cabin.
