October 4th is the start of the 27th annual Avocado Festival in Carpinteria, California. Where would guacamole be without the avocado?? This pear shaped fruit (a member of the flowering plant family Lauraceae along with cinnamon and camphor) takes over the town of Carpinteria in Santa Barbara County this weekend from the 4th through the 6th of October.
Carpinteria’s Linden Avenue is taken over by booths set up by local non-profits to raise money for their organizations. As can be expected, many of the booths will feature Avocado products, from the simple guacamole dip to more exotic fare such as Avocado ice cream and other green delights. Arts and crafts vendors will also be located throughout the downtown area.
The festival works to be a “green” festival.
- The Festival is a No Styrofoam Zone
- Biodiesel is used for Festival Generators
- Boast an Overall Diversion Rate of 98%!
- The Festival Honors the City's Ordinance on Outdoor Smoking
Three stages located throughout the downtown area will feature acts for young and old. Check out the best of the best recipes and look for the “largest grown” avocado booth.
