Just before 4:00 a.m. this past Saturday, New Orleans police received a call of a female shot in a vehicle in the 500 block of Frenchmen Street. Eighth District officers arrived at a local hospital where they found eighteen year old Jennifer Zometa suffering from a gunshot wound to the back.
Officers gathered information which indicates that Zometa was shot once in the back while inside of a vehicle. Detectives questioned the four individuals who were in the vehicle with the victim and ascertained that eighteen year old Dominique Valere had a gun inside of the vehicle. As he attempted to unload it, it fired, striking the victim in the back. He discarded the weapon, but was able to give officers its location and they were able to find it. The occupants of the vehicle drove the victim to the hospital where she was treated and listed in stable condition.
Valere was arrested and charged with Negligent Injury and Obstruction of Justice. Also arrested and charged with Obstruction of Justice were twenty-two year old Orlando Valere, nineteen year old Carlos Pez and nineteen year old Louis Alverez, all of Kenner.
Detective Willie Jenkins is in charge of the investigation.
