A 17-year-old was arrested on Monday evening on suspicion of first degree murder following an early morning stabbing at a home in the 100 block of Chelton Rd., in Colorado Springs.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, the stabbing occurred shortly before 2 AM on Monday, October 14. When police arrived at the home, they found a 34-year-old male victim with stab wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital where he later died. On Tuesday, the police reported that the victim was identified as Norzell Badger Jr. His death was ruled a homicide.
Officers identified a suspect early in the investigation and, at about 6:20 PM on Monday, asked for the public's assistance in locating 17-year-old Avery James Jackson. At 9 PM, the police department reported that Jackson was in custody.
According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, police described the stabbing as a family disturbance and neighbors stated that there had been a lot of fighting at the home lately. This is the 26th homicide in Colorado Springs this year, putting 2013 on pace to surpass the record-breaking 32 homicides in 2011, the Gazette reported.
