161 cats rescued from home of Colorado animal hoarder (Video)

The 161 cats rescued from a home in Colorado yesterday took 13 animal welfare organizations and four hours to remove from the premises. The large-scale rescue took place on Jan. 29, 2013. Fortunately, the felines are all safe and being prepared for adoption, reported Yahoo! Voices.

The clutter, or clowder, of cats was being kept in large kennels. They were in relatively good health. However, some of the animals were suffering from eye problems that are currently being treated with antibiotics.

The woman who collected the cats over the course of eight years will not be identified by name or address per an agreement with the animal rescue groups. She cooperated fully with the rescue of 161 cats from her home and will not face charges.

Life Is Better Rescue has a list of the other animal rescue groups that participated in the rescue. Visit their website for the full list and links where you can find out more about the cats when they are ready for adoption. Life Is Better wrote, "Thanks to the following rescue organizations that helped save over 150 cats for a single situation in one day. . . . If you are interested in adopting on of the cats rescued today, please see these specific rescues. It is estimated they will be ready for their forever home within the next 1 to 2 [sic] weeks."

The 161 cats rescued from the home in Colorado Springs, Colo. is reminiscent of another recent incident when 67 dead cats plus 99 live ones were removed from the home of an animal hoarder in New York earlier this month. The dead cats were stored inside a freezer. The frozen felines comprised 52 kittens and 15 mature cats. They were wrapped individually and presumed to have been deceased prior to their placement in the freezer.
