The 16 Mile Brewing Company officially opened their new Tavern Shop on Friday, January 27. There were hundreds in attendance as Chad Campbell and Brett McCrea celebrated the English style tavern built adjacent to the brewery, which is housed in what was once a 100-year old barn on S. Bedford Street in Georgetown. Guests enjoyed food catered by Patty’s Deli and the sounds of “15 Strings” as they sampled the craft brew offered by 16 Mile.
Tavern
The Tavern Shop is designed similar to the old-time English taverns that were popular in the area during the Revolution. The staff plans to invite guest speakers, musicians and other entertainment occasionally to the Tavern, while the majority of the time, the plan is for it to be a meeting place for locals.
Hours
Currently, the Tavern Shop will be open on Tuesday and Wednesday from 12 Noon until 5 PM, Friday from 11 Am to 7 PM and Saturday from 11 AM to 5 PM. Tours will be offered on Thursday and Friday from 12 Noon until 4 PM and on Saturday from 12 Noon until 2 PM. Tours begin at the top of the hour and can be scheduled by email.
Environmental Impact
During the brewing process, waste is created and, initially, the waste was used to feed several cows on the farm where the brewery is located. Recently, the brewery has entered into an agreement with a local farmer who will collect the waste and use it for feed for pigs and other livestock in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint of the brewery.
16 Mile strives to be a leading craft brew in Delaware and plans to keep their distribution area small. The company hopes that their brews are something visitors can look forward to when they visit Delaware beach resorts.
