Ashley Wagner is a tough competitor for Team USA. Taking on the Olympic figure skating short program with focus and determination, the athlete offered a clean skate and got all the necessary elements in her program. With millions of people watching, the athlete proved she belonged at the Olympics. According to Just Jared Jr on Wednesday, Ashley’s score put her sixth on the scoreboard. The official program in Sochi listed the score as 65.21 and put her in medal contention.

While her step sequence was strong, her jumps looked solid and the twists seemed nearly perfect, the athlete was competing with some of the best in figure skating and her score reflecting the difference. With the required elements of three jumps, three twists and one step sequence, it seemed like the skater was playing it safe on some aspects. Almost 10 points lower than Yuna Kim who offered an effortless performance earlier in the evening, Wagner will need to really shine on Thursday for the freestyle program.

Overall Ashley Wagner did what she needed to do to possibly get a medal. Offering a solid program, giving some amazing facial expressions and showing plenty of confidence, it appears the athlete can only hope that tomorrow she does even better to bring home a medal for America.
