When the 16 and Pregnant: Where Are They Now special aired in early July, rumors speculated that one of the stars, Aubrey Wolters was abusing drugs. In the episode, it was apparent that she lost a substantial amount of weight, and her behavior was quite erratic. In fact, after the airing of the episode, the teen mom dealt with excessive backlash due to her actions on the episode, which included a Saint Patricks Day party, as well as the proclamation that she wishes to become a stripper.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that the 19-year-old was arrested for suspicion of shoplifting, posession of a prescription drug without a prescription and possession of a dangerous drug while she was out with her son, Austin, last year.
Aubrey's mom, Shelly Wolters told E! NEWS that her daughter is suffering from a large noncancerous tumor in her throat, leaving her unable to eat or sleep, and explaining her drastic weight loss.
"It's huge," her mom said. "It's almost the size of your fist. She has to get it taken out....The last time I saw her she has a hard time sleeping, eating, breathing....It is something she needs to get taken care of but she wants to get a job to keep her apartment and raise Austin.”
Wolters currently does not have health insurance and is unable to undergo treatment.
The teen mom's mother also explained that her daughter will have her record cleared as she was wrongly accused of the shoplifting charges as aforementioned, explaining that the perscription drug was Ritalin for her husband, and the dangerous drug belonged to a friend.
"She is good girl. She is just struggling like most new parents. Aubrey is really trying hard to be a single mom," Wolters says. "She and Brandon broke up and she is working hard to raise Austin."
Aubrey is married to, but is legally separated from her one-year-old son Austin's father, Brandon Akerill.
Newark resident and once teen mom herself many years ago, Kelly Wallace says, "My prayers go out to Aubrey and her son. I hope she is able to get treatment soon so she can take care of her baby."
