15th Women's Winter Tour Benefits Traverse City Abused Women's Shelter (Photos)

Need a reason to visit, or cross-country ski near Traverse City? Here’s a good one: Registration is now open for the 15th annual Women’s Winter Tour, Sunday, Feb. 3 in TC.
This year’s tour starts near downtown, when participants will kick off to cross-country ski, or, if the snow gods don’t cooperate, hike, along the Leelanau Trail towards Suttons Bay.
The tour will finish at Black Star Farms, where you’ll be treated to innumerable treats from the tour’s sponsors, i.e., local foods, wine and chocolate. Be treated like a queen as men "man" the course and serve you a selection of warm goodies at trailside food stations.
Afterward, gather at Blackstar with your pals and sample Lil' Bo Pub and Grille's Famous Red Pepper Bleu Mac & Cheese, Higher Grounds Coffee, a large selection of soups, artisan bread from Crooked Tree Breadworks, local wines, just to name a few. The Yellow Truck will also be on-site to serve.
Enjoy Black Star Farms tasting room before your trip back to the Holiday Inn by bus. If coming from out-of-town, reserve a special package at the TC Holiday Inn, or the Park Place Hotel. After the event, stay and play in downtown Traverse City. Whatever is your pleasure, you'll find it this weekend.
The tour has been helping women along the pathway to a brighter future the last 15 years now, and is an Active Women Now event.
Registration for the Women's Winter Tour is just $25 until Feb. 1, or $35 in person by Feb. 2 at the Holiday Inn. A late registration fee of an additional $10 applies on Feb. 3.
All proceeds go to support Active Women Now, a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to helping women make healthy emotional and physical choices. Its goals are fourfold:
Benefit a variety of local women’s charities supporting victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse and other community resources that promote and protect physcial and emotional well-being.
Create an experience that is empowering for the fellowship and sense of community that is shared by every person that participates and/or volunteers.

Provide an educational element that introduces the world of health and fitness issues for women. We want women to make healthy individual choices; which helps create healthy family and community environments.
Enhance the community at large by partnering with the local business and showcasing their uniqueness as well as area attractions. Since it began, the tour has rasied more than $70,000 for Madeline’s House abused women's shelter in Traverse City.
