The 15th Annual Jersey Shore Arts Center, “Run for the Arts 5K” will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 in historic Ocean Grove, N.J.

The event will start at the Jersey Shore Arts Center (Old Neptune High School), 66 South Main Street, Ocean Grove, NJ 07756. The 5K will start at 9:00 a.m. and there will also be a 2 mile walk which will start at 9:15 a.m.

The event will benefit the Center’s new Culinary Center for Visually Impaired & Special Needs Individuals. This new service is housed in the Center’s 3rd floor and provides a state of the arts and industry-like setting for students to learn about kitchen and restaurant management

It is a fast and flat course through historic Ocean Grove and along the ocean front boardwalk.

New this year is a Pre-Race Pasta Dinner on Friday, September 12, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Arts Center for only $10 which should be a fun event in itself. You can also pick up your race packet at the dinner. More information is available at the Jersey Shore Arts Center web site. Tickets will also be available at the door.

There will be awards for the top three male and female finishers in the 5K as well as age group awards.

Coming in first overall for the men last year was Greg Kucznski in 16:42. He was followed by Mark Zamek in 17:05 and then Rory Gredashields in 17:23 to round out the top three finishers.

In the women’s race last year there was some confusion as a group of runners took a wrong turn on the course through what appeared to be no fault of their own. The corrected top finishers were Grace Wells in 22:34 followed by
Meredith Reccoppa in 22:46 and then Karen Carolonza in 22:58.

The Jersey Shore Arts Center Mission according to its web site “is to ensure that the arts flourish within the community by providing a venue for education and artistic expression as well as opportunities for participation in theater, music, art, dance, and activities for all ages.”

The Jersey Shore Arts Center is owned and operated by the Ocean Grove Historic Preservation Society, Inc., a New Jersey non-profit, tax-exempt organization.

For anyone who wants to get ready to do their first 5K there will be an information session on a beginners running group on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Mile Ahead Sports located 2100 Route 35 in Manasquan/Wall. There will be a short run/walk at 6 p.m. and the information session will start immediately after at about 6:30 p.m. Information on the running group can be found here.
