Dashiell Hammett, author of The Maltese Falcon, The Thin Man, and various other crime fiction novels, was a prolific short story writer. Recently, fifteen previously unpublished short stories written by Hammett were discovered in the literary archives of the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas in Austin.
Andrew Gulli, managing editor of The Strand magazine, found the short stories and will be publishing one of them in his magazine’s upcoming winter/spring issue. The issue will also include an interview with Faye Kellerman and Diana Gabaldon.
The Stand has a history of bringing forth previously unpublished works from long dead authors. The magazine has also featured new stories from Mark Twain and Agatha Christie.
Gulli hopes to publish all of the discovered Dashiell Hammett stories in a collected short story book in the future. For now, fans of hardboiled detective fiction can preorder the Dashiell Hammett issue of The Strand to read some of this previously unreleased work.
