A 15 pound baby California birth has one mother resting easy now that her very big baby boy has arrived, if leaving her feeling a little sore. The massive birth of Andrew Jacob Cervantes has set a new state record in California this week as the heaviest child ever born there. SF Gate News shares this Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, that mother Vanessa Cervantez now has 3 children, and while all were quite large newborns, Andrew is by far the biggest of them all.

The 15 pound baby California news left the U.S. public especially shocked after learning that this wasn’t the mother’s first child on the heavy side, either. Cervantez said she knew she was about to deliver a very big baby, especially after her first two kids were unusually large, weighing in at 10 pounds, 10 ounces, and the second at 9 pounds, 14 ounces. However, her third child at 15 pounds is a record-maker, to be sure.

“I couldn’t even believe it,” Ms. Cervantez explained to a local news station. “They had to double check because I didn’t believe them; I thought the machine was broken.”

Young Andrwe Jacob Cervantez was welcomed into this world through an emergency Cesarean section due to early complications (and later his large size) this Thursday at a Southern California Hospital. While at 38 weeks into her pregnancy, Cervantez arrived at the hospital for a routine check-up. However, doctors were worried to find that there was a low amount of activity from the baby, specifically signs of decreased fetal movement, and rushed the mother into surgery.

Ms. Cervantez joked that she is grateful for the C-section in this 15 pound baby California arrival, considering that Andrew pulled down the scales quite a bit at a massive 15 pounds, 2 ounces, as well as 24 inches long. Though he was having trouble breathing after the massive birth, doctors believe he will turn out just fine.

“He’s having trouble breathing on his own,” Ms. Cervantez added in her statement, “that’s what they’re monitoring him for right now.”

The media has since confirmed that Ms. Cervantez gave birth to the heaviest baby that has ever born out west in California, setting a clear record. At the very least, it is the biggest of her 3 children yet.

“My sister’s been doing research and she doesn’t think a baby weighing 15 pounds has ever been born in California!” the mother exclaimed.

“Fifteen pounds is indeed very big for a newborn, but Andrew Jacob, is far from the biggest. A mother birthed a 19-pound baby in Indonesia in 2009 and a Russian baby was born in 2007 weighing a hefty 17 pounds. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the heaviest was a boy weighing 22.5 pounds, born in Aversa, Italy, in September 1955.”
