15 pound baby in California is born breaking records, not the scale

A 15 pound baby was born in California to a 28-year-old who thought that her very big son broke the scales when he was born.

According to the Daily Press, a local paper on Jan. 18, Andrew Jacob Cervantez was delivered to his petite, 5 foot 1 inch mom, Vanessa, at Desert Valley Hospital in Victorville, becoming arguably the largest baby on record to be born in the Golden State.

Andrew Jacob, who is 24 inches long, was born after his mother was given an emergency C-section. Vanessa was shocked when the scales showed her how heavy her baby was and even remarked, "[The nurses] had to double check [his weight] because I didn't believe them."

Last year's biggest baby born in the USA was a 14-pound cutie who was born in Ohio in 2013 but the heaviest baby on record came into the world in 1879. The mother was Canadian, and she was very tall at 7 feet 5 inches. Her child, Anna Bates, weighed 23 pounds and 12 ounces at birth but only lived for 11 hours.

Meanwhile, a giant baby was born in Brazil in 2005. His name is Francisco Ramos and he is the heaviest baby ever born in that South American country.

And so, as a 15 pound baby in California is born while likely breaking state records, he did not break the scale he weighed in on for the first time.
