Over 3000 people flocked to Lafayette, CO yesterday to dine at Pioneer Elementary School. Within the walls of this local school, volunteers handed out steaming hot bowls of oatmeal and led participants down the rows of more oatmeal toppings than you could ever imagine.

Over 140 toppings were offered, including chocolate covered raisins, gummi bears, nutella, fresh fruit, and M&M's. In addition to the oatmeal, pancakes, muffins, and bacon were also provided to the people who came from all over Colorado to enjoy a great start to the new year.

For those running the 5k race, it was a perfect day. The weather was mild and dozens of cheerful volunteers lined the streets, encouraging the runners and walkers. At the head of the pack was Andrew Letherby, finishing in only 15 minutes and 6 seconds. The first place female finisher was Terra Moody, crossing the finish in a swift 17 minutes 23 seconds.

In addition to the oatmeal bar breakfast and fun run, an oatmeal cooking competition was held. Callie Palen-Lowrie walked away with the Grand Prize for her Lemon Glazed Oatmeal Cookies.

The 14th annual Lafayette Oatmeal Festival was a success. It gave attendees the opportunity to have a fun day and start their year off right.

Anyone who didn't have the opportunity to participate in this years event, will have a chance in 2011, on January 8th. Don't miss it!
