On Friday, in Butler County, OH, Alex Ramirez, 14, appeared before Juvenile Court Judge Ronald Craft and heard that he will be tried as an adult for the alleged rape and robbery of a 64-year-old Liberty Township woman.
The victim’s family was in court for the proceeding and testified to the deterioration of the woman’s health since the particularly violent attack. They reported that she has simply lost her will to live. Barely eating and drinking.
Her son said: “All she wants to do is sit and stare out a window.”
According to detectives with the Butler County sheriff’s office, armed with a pellet rifle, Ramirez entered his victim’s home in the early morning hours of Jan. 11. He then demanded money, beat and raped the woman, finally forcing her to drive him to an ATM.
At Friday’s hearing, Dr. Kim Stookey, a forensic psychologist, described her meeting with Ramirez, and the troubling results of the tests she administered to the Mexican national.
Dr. Stookey diagnosed Ramirez as a high-risk sex offender, citing that he seems to be “fixated” on the sight of blood, even being aroused by it. She said his chances for rehabilitation are low, and gave her recommendation that his trial be moved to adult court.
Prosecutors also told the court about Ramirez’ disruptive behavior for the two months he has been incarcerated. In addition to being loud and confrontational, he has reportedly been sexually gratifying himself in public view.
In an earlier proceeding, a detective told the court of a rather sickening statement made by Ramirez, when he was arrested for the rape. Ramirez reportedly said: “Well, I guess you have to pay the price for having a little fun.”
Ramirez is charged with felonious assault, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, kidnapping and rape. Judge Craft set bail at $1.1 million.

Illegal or not, it is wrong to try a child as an adult. Is a 14 year old allowed to buy cigarettes? Alcohol? Sign contracts? Join the military? Vote?
No, of course not. A child is not allowed to do any of those things because society holds, and quite properly, that a child is unable to think as an adult and to be able to make responsible decisions for himself or for others.
Trying a child as an adult, then, is merely a lynching by prosecutors to satisfy the blood-lust of the crowd and to promote their own "I"m really, really tough on crime" career.
A society, a nation, can be measured by how it treats its most vulnerable. By allowing children to be tried as adults, we bring dishonor upon ourselves as a nation and as a people.
Having no legal background, I'm not sure if he should be tried as delinquent or adult. As a US Citizen I don't think this illegal should ever have been allowed into America.
i wonder why the author, generally anti-immigrant, would write an article about this case. obviously the judge should throw the book at the kid and he should go away for a long, long time, but is highlighting this case in the context of the rest of the author's articles generalizing the entire illegal immigrant population?
my point is, while this kid is a monster, what does that have to do with any other illegal immigrants? most of them are hardworking and family oriented. Furthermore, especially in border states, entire industries and economies are propped up by them. it would be a shame for any reader to see this and judge any immigrant, legal or otherwise, as capable of the same sort of actions.

The reason that these incidents should be reported is to inform the American people of the price we are paying due to illegal immigration.
Whether hardworking or not is beside the point. They have knowingly and willing entered the Country illegally.
This crime would not have been committed if we enforced our immigration laws and the tragedy to others - who have are yet to exerience these crimes - by individuals who SHOULD NOT be in the Country to begin with must stop.
Just ask the 64 year woman in the story who is left to deal with this - what her thoughts are - where is your compassion for the fellow Americans or legal residents left to suffer?
It is time we stop this "Collateral Damage" all in the name of cheap labor, votes and head counts.

Also, every illegal alien who has worked in the United States has committed one or more of the following crimes (several are felonies): ID theft, document fraud, Social Security fraud, "I-9 Form" employment fraud, conspiracy to violate immigration laws, and income tax evasion.

These people are, culturally, 180 degrees removed from Americans. We do not rape 12 y/o and claim "it is a cultural thing;" we do not have roosters fight to the death for our entertainment; we speak English in this country and do not demand other countries accommodate us; and, we do not invade other countries and demand rights to which we are not entitled nor deserve.
Further proof? Go to websites that list the thousands of sickening crimes committed by illegal aliens and the over 1 million sexual assaults committed by them on American citizens.

his/her comments in two different places. I admit it was a bit confusing! So Diane, you and I are actually in agreement on our responses to mh85's comments. Let's both keep up the good fight and keep speaking out against illegal immigration!
1. the VAST majority of illegal immigrants will only ever commit one crime - illegal immigration. that does not make them criminals in the sense that this little monster is a criminal. anecdotal evidence is never acceptable as generalizing evidence.
2. hardly any illegal immigrants apply for welfare benefits and actually pay out of their paychecks into social security. while many of them are paid under the table, the best way to fix this would be to grant them residency.
3. there is a legal way to enter the usa for very few hispanic people. it isn't like our european ancestors who were allowed to come and work for a better life with no money and no identification. the process for most mexicans to become legally american is absurdly difficult.
4. immigrants, illegal and otherwise, are america's ace in the hole in this century. instead of graying like china and europe the usa will retain a better workforce/elderly ratio making us viable while europe and asia become glorified res

5. a disagreement on the morality and economic benefits of illegal immigrants is probably healthy. however, it is so sad to see so many arguments like "it's all fun and games in their countries", and "Typical for this breed isn't it?". these statements are based in hatred, ignorance, and deep-seeded racism. there isn't much to argue with if that is the case. still i would encourage people to travel to mexico, meet some illegal immigrants, and take a basic population and economics class. like i keep saying, let this kid rot, but putting a human face on people that genuinely have no other path to making their lives better (meaning more like yours) will help you understand that they are not evil, nor do they want a "free ride". just a chance - and that is sort of what america is supposed to be about.
A major problem with illegal immigration, though, is over-population and over-extension of resources. Illegal aliens may be simply seeking a better life, but increasingly, their benefit is our detriment. If not for illegal immigration there would be about 100 million less people in the USA. Illegal aliens and their descendants will cause the US's population to grow to 400-500 million by 2050, and over a billion by 2100. There is only so much of the pie that can be shared before there is nothing much left sharing.
As a legally constituted nation, the USA has a right, a mandate, to ensure that its own citizens are happy and have the opportunity to live decent lives. Over-population will lead to resources being stretched ever thinner, higher costs for everything from food to land to power, water shortages, over-crowding, and who can say what else?
We must defend our borders if we are to survive as a nation worth living in.

The USA cannot absorb the world's population. There must be limits about who and how many may be admitted. Immigration paradigms that may have worked well enough in the past are obsolete, and new rules must be in place and actively enforced. It is not only a quality of life issue for Americans, but a survival issue. And survival does not only mean the survival of a culture, a people, a way of life, but the survival of the United States. There are too many people who want to come her, but there are neither the resources or room to accommodate them all.
This is why illegal aliens must be stopped at the border, and for those who are already her, they need to be arrested, and returned to their homeland. We can spend trillions of dollars trying to shore up nations like Afghanistan and Iraq, yet are unable to muster the will and
the money to protect our own nation's borders and citizens. And as for the "graying" of America, it is for us to decide how we ill deal with that. It is not for illegal aliens to decide.
We do not need a "replacement" population to take care of us.
