A 14-year-old girl was shot outside of her middle school in Atlanta this afternoon. Preliminary reports first claimed the girl was shot in the head, but now it is reported that she was shot in the neck. According to breaking news on Fox News live Thursday afternoon, Jan. 31, 2013, the girl was allegedly shot by another student at that school. The shooter is in custody, according to Polisymic on Thursday afternoon.
Since authorities have not released the name of the girl, many parents of daughters in that school were panic stricken not knowing if the victim is their daughter or not. Eye witnesses say the girl was awake and alert when she was placed in an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital.
Fox News reports eyewitnesses as seeing the girl talking while emergency personal put her in an ambulance for the transport to the hospital. This is considered good news, reports Fox, as it suggests the girl isn't critically injured.
The report of another school shooting rocks the nation as this comes on the heals of the recent Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting which left 27 dead, including the shooter and his mother. The school shooting in Atlanta has one victim and even though reports say the shooter’s in custody, police are going through the school rooms one at a time securing the school.
According to Policymic, this is the second shooting of the day in the U.S. making news. A North Texas prosecutor was shot and killed outside a courthouse today. That shooting happened at 9 a.m. this morning.
The Atlanta middle school investigation is on-going. A teacher is also reported hurt during this shooting as she was trampled by other students fleeing the area of the shooting. Her injuries are minor reports Fox News. She has some bumps and bruises from being trampled.
According to Fox News, the suspect in the shooting is a student at Price Middle School. The shooting may be a result of a dispute between two groups of kids from different schools. Some witnesses reported to Fox News that kids came to the Price Middle School from another school because of a dispute. Again, it is early in the investigation. This story will be updated when more information is released.
