Tuesday, 14 states in the Northeast are under a heat wave advisory from the National Weather Service. The advisory is in effect until Wednesday in some areas. The heat wave is expected to break records along the East Coast on Tuesday, and the triple-digit temperatures could make the situation very dangerous.
New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Washington, DC, Delaware, Maryland, Michigan, New Hampshire and other New England states have cities under heat advisories for the next few days. Temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees and the humidity will be very high, creating a “dangerous situation” in many areas, according to the National Weather Service.
A Good Morning America report Monday showed that during excessive heat a body sweats out about a liter of water every hour, showing how important it is to drink plenty of fluids.
A heat wave along the East Coast in 1980 killed over 1,250 people, according to the National Weather Service.
A heat advisory is in effect in Philadelphia until Wednesday night. In New York City it is effective until 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Residents of the Northeastern US have been strongly warned to "drink plenty of fluids," stay out of the sun, and stay in air-conditioned rooms. If you have friends or relatives who live alone check on them frequently.

Tuesday will reflect the hottest day in many areas, with high temperatures reaching 100-102 degrees, and heat index values up to 106.
