If you are dreaming of dining at the type of restaurant you've only been able to see on tv, thinking that it was way beyond your budget in this economy, Volt has a treat for you: a 3-course "Express lunch" for $14 a person. One of the courses can even be a Flying Dog beer, a martini, or a glass of wine! That's a top shelf drink for less than $5. If you want to keep your courses to food, they have a water purification system with unlimited complimentary sparkling or still water available. If you're tempted for more courses, they're $5 additional.
Volt's express lunch menu isn't precious, either: you'll find a variety of burgers, fries, and other accessible items done with a gourmet touch. Express eaters can sit in the lounge or at the bar.
Even with simple items like the lamb burger, careful attention is paid to every small detail: plating is exact and you'll not find any winter pale tomatoes or wilted lettuce. The hanger steak is marvelously tender. Many of the ingredients are locally sourced.
Keeping with the gourmet comfort food for lunch theme, Volt has special desserts available as one (or more) of your courses. One currently has chocolate in several forms including house-made milk chocolate ice cream, dark chocolate mousse, and dark chocolate caramel. It's a study in textures! The goat cheese cake with d'anjou pear and vanilla ice cream is sophisticated and not afraid to use a goat cheese that doesn't hide its identity.
