"Knitting Brioche-Stitch Socks" is a new book by Barbara Sander. If knitting the heel of a sock has you questioning yourself, fear not. This book of 14 easy patterns are all tube socks, no heels, no hassles, it is just that easy.
Brioche stitch creates a ribbed fabric that resembles a 1 x 1 rib (k1, p1). It is worked with a yarnover (YO) and slipped stitch. The resulting fabric is stretchy and cushiony. Barbara shows you a "clever" technique that knits elasticity into the sock to better fit your foot.
The book is user friendly, clear and concise. With step by step photographs you will be shown how to cast on, and knit the basic Brioche stitch in the round. Barbara shows you how to knit a Star toe and block your finished sock. Included is a sock sizing chart, allowing you to modify a pattern for a small child all the way up to a men's 2x.
The slideshow on the left shows some of the completed socks of the patterns in the book. Aren't they socks you just want to put your foot into? So give it a try and knit yourself a pair of Brioche stitched socks. You will wonder why it took so long to make your first pair.
A Stitch in Time is having Trisha Malcolm from "Vogue Knitting" for a book signing. She will have a slide presentation of the upcoming spring issue.
