13th annual Bellevue Easter egg hunt a hopping success

13th Annual Bellevue Community-Wide Easter Egg Hunt

Bellevue Baptist Church sponsored its 13th annual free community-wide Easter egg hunt today at Red Caboose Park in Nashville's Bellevue area. The April 23rd Easter event drew children from all over Middle Tennessee as well as visitors staying at the Bellevue Microtel Hotel.

This may have been the biggest turnout so far as tots crowded onto the field to collect their colorful prizes. "Boy, it looks like a swarm of locusts out there," I overheard one parent say as the toddlers took the field.

Easter Egg Hunt Not a Contact Sport

The park is divided into sections based upon age, so each age group competes with children their own age -- and compete they did -- even the youngest. One mother commented, "Some of these parents sound like they are training their kids for a contact sport," as parents (who had apparently lost sight of what an Easter egg hunts is all about) offered the toddler to three-year-old children tips on how to rush the field and grab eggs. Unfortunately, many parents were also on the field grabbing eggs, leaving some of the younger and slower children with few eggs left to find.

For the most part the kids seemed oblivious to the unsportsmanship-like behavior of many parents around them as little hands happily grasped blue, yellow, green, pink, turquoise and orange eggs filled with candy, Bible verses, and prizes. In addition to the eggs, snacks and face painting were offered, all free compliments of Bellevue Baptist Church.

"This is such a nice, happy event," says Jill Allen of West Nashville who brought her 1-year-old daughter to the event. "I feel both lucky and blessed that Anna's first easter Egg hunt was such a positive and memorable experience.  I am looking forward to many more in the coming years.  I would like to thank the staff of the church for all their hard work and kindness."
