A 13 year old pet beagle, presumed stolen from her back yard in Georgiana, Al., is back home and recovering after being used as "bait" for a pit bull, according to an article published Monday on the WSFA.com website.
Ellie Mae went outside to go potty and disappeared according to her owners. When she didn't show up by the next day, her owner went to police department to report her missing. While he was there, the police informed him that someone had brought in a beagle who had been injured in a fight with a pit bull.
Susanna Gaston, Ellie Mae's owner, posted the following on the Butler County Humane Society Facebook page:
She has some terrible wounds. Dr. Gardner at Clay Hill did a wonderful job with her, and sent her home yesterday. We are caring for her, giving her antibiotics, and trying to get her to eat. She won't eat much solid food, but I can get some liquids in her via syringe.
Although not much information has been released to date, WSFA reports that there is a witness who claims to have seen the fight, which occurred a mile away from Ellie Mae's home. There have been no arrests yet, and according to WSFA, felony charges are being considered pending the results of the police investigation.
