The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed Tuesday that they were doing an autopsy on a 13-month-old Clayton County boy who was allegedly hurt by his father.
Mr. Ryan Russell Edwards, 34, of Newnan was arrested early Saturday morning and booked into the Clayton County jail, according to jail records.
Clayton County police charged the man with two counts of child cruelty and aggravated battery in the incident involving his son, police said.
Mikkah Brown was taken off life support Monday, four days after his mom, Ms. Toni Brown, found him unresponsive after returning home from work, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Ms. Brown took the toddler, who had been left in his father's care, to an urgent care facility near their Morrow home Friday, and he was transferred to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, Channel 2 reported.
"He had suffered a severe brain injury, fractured skull and severe brain damage," Ms. Brown told the news station.
Monday, she made the difficult decision to have him taken off life support, the report said.
"Mikkah was very loving, very happy, very sweet," she said.
Ms. Brown told the news stations that she had never had this kind of trouble with Mr. Edwards before.
"Children are innocent, and people should pay for hurting the innocent," she said.
GBI spokesman Mr. John Bankhead said the autopsy was being done on the child Tuesday.
