Dave Castro, from CrossFit HQ, announced 13.1, the first workout of the 2013 CrossFit Open, yesterday evening at 5pm PT.
- 40 Burpees
- 30 Snatches @ 75lbs/45lbs
- 30 Burpees
- 30 Snatches @ 135lbs/75lbs
- 20 Burpees
- 30 Snatches @ 165lbs/100lbs
- 10 Burpees
- AMRAP Snatches @ 210lbs/120lbs
The weight requirements for the Snatches are listed for Men/Women, respectively. 13.1 has a time limit of 17 minutes, which means that to qualify for the Open, an athlete must complete as many reps as possible (AMRAP) within the allotted time.
A Burpee is a pushup with an explosive jump at the end. A successful jump is confirmed by touching a target six inches beyond the athlete’s standing reach.
The Snatch is lifting a weighted bar from the floor to overhead, arms outstretched, in what looks to be one fluid movement.

As part of the 13.1 Presentation, CrossFit athletes Dan Bailey and Scott Panchik competed against each other to complete the full 17 minute round. Bailey completed the 10 Burpees, and loaded his bar with 210 lbs before time expired. Panchik completed the entire circuit, including 5 Snatches at 210 lbs.
Do you have what it takes to qualify for the 2013 CrossFit Games? Registration for the Open is still available, and will be until the cutoff for 13.1 Video Submissions, on Sunday, March 10, 2013.
