12th Annual “Brazilian Carnaval: Exotica” brings authentic Brazil to L.A.

Carnaval, the annual festival before Lent, returns to Los Angeles in all its splendor and spectacle in the form of Brazilian Nites Productions’ “12th Annual Brazilian Carnaval: Exotica” at Club Nokia at L.A. Live, on February 25th at 8:00 p.m.

Brazilian Nites Productions’ “Brazilian Carnaval: Exotica” is the largest Brazilian Carnaval    celebration on the West Coast and is one of the best alternatives for Angelenos who are unable to travel to Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo or Bahia for their over the top celebrations.  “Brazilian Carnaval: Exotica,” will feature an array of live music; ornately costumed samba dancers; the athleticism of Capoeira (the Brazilian martial arts form); a 100 drummer participatory drum circle; a giveaway of a trip for two to Brazil and authentic food and drinks, including Brazil’s national cocktail, the caipirinha (made with cachaca, sugar and lime juice).  Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes.

The night’s lineup include: Chalo Eduardo’s All Star Band featuring a group of international musicians playing classic Brazilian Carnaval music, as well as the eclectic stylings of the band SambaDa, whose percussion-based style of South and Central American samba and salsa blend with funk and reggae producing a very unique sound.  The Brazilian Nites Samba Dances, directed and choreographed by Joany Macias, dressed in elaborate sequined and featured headdresses, masks and micro-bikinis will dance the lively samba, while Los Angeles Samba School and mass dance floor choreographies or “blocos” choreographed by Fransini Giraldo from SambaBody will energize the crowd.  The celebration also features a Rio Carnaval simulcast and video visuals of Brazilian sites and culture by Leonardo Bondani, who has performed with Moby, Deep Forest, Lila Downs & the Mexican Institute of Sound.  DJ Chris Brazil will also spin Brazilian dance music in between set.

Brazilian Nites, in presenting Brazilian Carnaval 2012, will partner with The Painted Turtle, a non-profit charity that provides an innovative camp and family care center for children with life threatening illnesses.  Patricia and Gilberto Leao, Producers from Brazilian Nites Productions, have brought L.A. the best of Brazilian talent since 1990.
