Houston area residents have an almost endless array of bars and restaurants from which to choose. Some are traditional and casual, but there are countless others that offer something unique and contemporary. One that makes a good choice for those seeking Spanish food and drink is 1252 Tapas Bar.
At 1252 Tapas Bar, guest can enjoy a selection of foods a little more unique to the area. The menu is categorized as follows:
- Soups & Salads
- Meat Tapas
- Seafood Tapas
- More Tapas
- 1252 Specialties
Some of the 1252 specialties include Hearty Lamb Meatballs, Blood Sausage, Marinated Pork Skewers, Stuffed Red Peppers, and Garlic Shrimp. Other menu options within the above categories include an assortment of different meats, seafood, and vegetarian dishes.
Drinks are an important part of the 1252 Tapas Bar experience and they include an assortment of fine wines, premium liquors, beer, soft drinks, and tea. Guests can purchase wine by the glass or bottle, enjoy a 1252 Tapas Bar special drink, or ask for their favorite mixed drink made to their own specifications.
The beer selection at 1252 Tapas Bar is somewhat limited, but there are enough choices that most guests should be able to find something agreeable. When I last visited, the beer selection included such options as:
- Anchor Steam
- Saint Arnold
- Alaskan Brewing
- Dos Equis
- Shiner Bock
- Left Hand
- Estrella Inedit
There are a few other selections and while the numbers are limited, most should be able to find something they like and craft beer fans will be happy to find a handful of options, including Estrella Inedit, a Spanish beer not usually seen in most taverns or restaurants.
1252 Tapas Bar has two Houston area locations: 9595 Six Pines Dr., Suite 670, in the Woodlands and 1101 Uptown Park in Houston.
1252 Tapas Bar offers a contemporary décor with a European flair. The inside isn’t very large, but the cozy, intimate setting is nice for small groups who don’t want to get lost in the crowd and have to hail a wait staff member when service is needed. The outdoor patio is nice for cooler evenings and it adds greatly to the overall seating capacity. And the televisions are almost always tuned to live sports action for customer entertainment.
1252 Tapas Bar is a nice place to visit for some delicious food and drink. The specialty items include lighter menu options, meaty dishes, and other foods that are quite unlike those of other dining establishments and a refreshing change from the usual American cuisine.
1252 Tapas Bar isn’t very large inside and this fact could be considered both a strength and a weakness. The problem, of course, is during lunches and late at night when business is brisk- there is a good chance there will not be any place available to sit. This is particularly true at the Woodlands location during the evenings on weekends. Locals flock to 1252 Tapas Bar, filling the interior and patio as they enjoy drinks and light fare.
On the other hand, the smaller interior is nice when you want to visit a dining/drinking establishment and escape the crowds. With fewer guests, there is more elbow room and more attentive service. The wait staff has no problem covering customers’ needs and this leads to a more positive service experience than often found in other, larger establishments.
1252 Tapas Bar offers live music on select nights and televised sports entertainment on other days and nights. The Woodlands location, with its close proximity to the Cynthia Mitchell concert Pavilion, is a popular hangout when concerts are playing. The 1252 Tapas Bar is close enough that guests can hang out on the patio with their favorite beverage in hand and easily hear the tunes.
1252 Tapas Bar may not be the largest or best- known bar in the Houston area, but it does have many good things to offer and is certainly worth a visit. Stop by during lunch for the $15 two- course meal with soft drink or tea deal and discover what makes this establishment so popular with its loyal customers.
